Ok I am 16 and breast feeding my 2 month old son... What would be the 3 best birth controls opinions from you? What birth control would be best if breast feeding?
1. An IUD
2. Implanon
3. The mini-pill
An IUD is great because they have hormone or hormone free options. They last 5 to 10 years, and once placed, they're pretty much forget it and go. Just do a monthly self-check to make sure it's still in place. Implanon is good too because again, it's get it and forget it. A simple procedure to have it inserted under the skin, and it lasts for up to 3 years. The mini-pill is approved for breastfeeding mothers because of the low amounts of hormones. The only down side is having to remember to take a pill at the same time daily. It's easy for some to forget when they are taking care of newborns. What birth control would be best if breast feeding?
Well, not birth control pills or depo provera, since they would mess up your hormones and also would probably be passed through your breast milk. Best: abstinence, but maybe not realistic. I would recommend condoms, used carefully and conscientiously.
Diaphragm or condoms. IUD irritate the uterine lining so a fertilized egg won't implant and also cause a constant low-grade infection that alters cervical mucous to keep sperm from getting through. It's not really that safe or user-friendly.
Condoms, because most birthcontrol pills you can't take while breast feeding.
