Does it really matter when you start the birth control?

My doctor said to take it the first Sunday after my period starts.

I was hoping I would get my period today so I could take it, but I don't think I will.

In the instructions it says that I could take it the Sunday after, the first day of my period, or the 5th day of my period.

And I'd rather take it the first day of my period rather than the first Sunday.

So, question is...Do I have to follow what my doctor says or can I just go ahead?Does it really matter when you start the birth control?
Usually if you take the first pill on the first day of your period you are protected from pregnancy straight away, if you take it on any other day you are not protected for 7 days and should use condoms too. Not sure what taking in on the Sunday after your period will achieve other than the fact that each new pack will start on a Sunday thereafter?

If you are happier taking it on the first day of your period and the leaftlet says you can then I would do that.Does it really matter when you start the birth control?
It doesn't matter when you start the pill. Nothing bad will happen, the only thing that matters is when you'll be protected from pregnancy. If you start the pill on the very first day of your period, you're protected straight away. If you start any other time, you will have to wait seven days to be fully protected.

Your body doesn't know when it's a Sunday, so you can start it whenever.
you can do what you like, choose to follow the doctors instructions, or not.

its your choice, but do you think the doctor would have even bothered saying anything if it didn't matter??
Follow your doctors instructions.
Your doctor probably told you to take it on Sunday because of the way that your cycle lands......always follow what your doctor says, just to be on the safe side.
